Dental Restorations (Fillings)
Dental decay is the result of the interaction between bacteria in your mouth and food particles which break down into an acid, potentially eroding the enamel of a tooth.
A filling is a way to repair a tooth that has been damaged by decay. It allows the tooth to be restored to its normal function and shape. The procedure involves removal and cleaning of the decayed portion of the tooth followed by addition of a restorative material.
Composite resin filling material is a tooth colored restorative material. It is bonded directly to the surface of the tooth making the restoration strong as well as protecting the tooth from fracturing. The procedure involves layering the composite and hardening it with a high intensity light source. The restorative material blends well with the tooth and provides an esthetic result.
Amalgam (silver) filling material is a traditional dental restorative material. The strength and durability of this material makes it useful in situations when restored teeth must withstand extreme forces. It is less advantageous in esthetic areas.
Veneers
Dental veneers are custom porcelain coverings that are adhered to tooth surfaces with minimal preparation. Veneers are a great cosmetic solution for smile imperfections such as gaps, permanent stains, chipped or crooked teeth and mismatched shading of crown and bridge work. Porcelain veneers are also highly resistant to staining from food and beverages, creating the effect of a permanently whiter smile.
Porcelain veneers are carefully designed and your goals are critical to the process. We study your smile with you and determine your likes, dislikes, and desired results. With your input, we design a custom look for your smile!
